Why do I see ads?

The ads in Twitch tiles are Twitch's own. Here is when Twitch skips them, and how to let the player see your twitch.tv login.

Why the ads appear

Each Twitch tile is Twitch's own player, so the ads in it come from Twitch. Vesper never blocks, skips or hides them.

Twitch skips ads only when the player knows who you are and you have Turbo or a sub to that channel. Prime on its own does not remove ads.

The player knows who you are from your twitch.tv login in the same browser. On the web desk the player sits inside www.vesperdesk.app, and many browsers block that login cookie there (Safari, Firefox, Brave, private windows, or Chrome with third-party cookies blocked). Then Twitch treats you as signed out and shows ads.

Chrome, Edge and Brave

  1. Step 1:

    Sign in at twitch.tv in the same browser profile, not in a private or incognito window.

  2. Step 2:

    In Chrome, go to chrome://settings/cookies and add www.vesperdesk.app under Allowed to use third-party cookies. If Chrome shows an eye icon in the address bar on the desk, you can also allow them from there.

  3. Step 3:

    In Edge, go to edge://settings/content/cookies and add www.vesperdesk.app under Allow, with Include third-party cookies on this site ticked.

  4. Step 4:

    In Brave, click the lion icon on the desk and set Cookies to Allow all for this site.

  5. Step 5:

    Reload the desk.

Firefox

  1. Step 1:

    Sign in at twitch.tv in the same Firefox window type (not a private window).

  2. Step 2:

    Open the web desk and click the shield icon left of the address bar.

  3. Step 3:

    Turn off Enhanced Tracking Protection for this site. Firefox reloads the page.

This only changes the setting for www.vesperdesk.app, not for other sites.

Safari

  1. Step 1:

    Sign in at twitch.tv in Safari.

  2. Step 2:

    Open Safari → Settings → Privacy and clear Prevent cross-site tracking.

  3. Step 3:

    Reload the desk.

Safari has no per-site switch for this, so it applies to every site. Turn it back on whenever you like; the desk still works, with ads.

In the Windows app

The Windows app has its own player sign-in. Open Settings → Support and click Sign in on the players (older versions call it Refresh Prime session), then sign in to Twitch there.

The same rule applies: ads are skipped only with Turbo or a sub to the channel. Vesper never removes ads.
